Gwen is an accomplished artist and a published author in a least six books on book-making, including the popular The Decorated Page, The Decorated Journal, and Simple Printmaking. Gwen holds two degrees in Master of Fine Arts from University of Notre Dame and Vermont College of Norwich University. In 2007, Gwen received the National Museum of Women in the Arts Library Fellows Grant for the production of a limited edition of her original artist’s book Helen Kottanner’s Memoirs. For over 20 years Gwen has served as art professor with Warren Wilson College, six of which she has chaired. Gwen continues to lead workshops and exhibit art in the US and Europe.
The concept for Geometria Piana is based on poem her husband wrote in Italian (translated):
Lizards, in a perfect number
Less than ten, have arrived to admire my position
They bring a vast knowledge of plane geometry.
