Upward Mobility / Mobile Homes
Digital prints of mixed media w/ b&w film enlargement
52" x 38"
Michael O’Shea is an Asheville born visual artist, photographer and writer with a degree in philosophy. He’s also a multi-instrumentalist and producer with seven solo albums under the moniker of Kinjac. “Upward Mobility / Mobile Homes” is an exploration of disparate notions of “mobility.” In economic terms “upward mobility” denotes the freedom to move up the socioeconomic ladder. But in the case of mobile homes the concept is ironic, as it has become a symbol of the inescapable cycle of rural poverty. This piece was donated to MHO to help raise awareness around the right to affordable housing in Appalachia.
