Clean Up My Messes Quilt
73" x 49"
Cotton fabrics, wool & cotton
Pattiy Torno has been sewing for 45 years and quilting for 28, yet her love of sewing, fabric, pattern, color & design holds strong to this day. “Clean Up My Messes” contains new & vintage mostly cotton fabrics from the US, Africa and Japan in golds and browns, machine piece and hand quilted with cotton embroidery floss and a wool batt for warmth. Nothing says “home” like a hand made quilt. Pattiy appreciates the massive investments that MHO continues to make in the WECAN neighborhood and the River Arts District and has chosen to donate this quilt as her way of saying “Thank You”.
I began sewing in 1965. My mother was my teacher, as my grandmother had taught my mother, and my great grandmother had taught my grandmother. Learning to sew was no surprise. In 1974 my last year in high school, I decided to become a fashion designer as it was the only career I could think of that would allow me to earn a living having something to do with what I love the most…sewing. In 1983, looking for a way to get back to the simple joy of playing with fabric, quilting seemed like the perfect vehicle. Quilting continues to bring great joy into my life as I hope my quilts bring great joy into yours.
