Paul has been working as an artist for more than 35 years, using clay as his primary medium. Growing up in southern California, he studied art at both University of California San Diego and Long Beach State University. Paul invites interpretation in his work intends to provoke questions through aspects that are ambiguous, provocative or even uncomfortable.
This piece explores some of the themes of our daily lives; internal conflicts between freedom and conformity, pleasure and responsibility, and the balance we try to maintain as we navigate complex and overlapping situations. Curtain Call is a combination of wheel thrown and hand-sculpted elements. The surface is hand-painted ceramic washes and glazes with ceramic decals created by the artist, fired multiple times from 2,016 degrees to 1,750 degrees.
