Fine Arts League of the Carolinas
Unique to this year’s Doors Auction and the exhibition at the League is a collaborative door created for the auction by the artists of the Fine Arts League. The design is by Charles Le Brun (1619-1690) and is a preparatory cartoon for the figure of Victory, without wings, the standard attribute of the allegory. League faculty and students including Michael Smith, Christopher Holt, John Dempsey, Paul Blankenship, Cheryl Ann Lipstreu, Caleb Clark, Noah Park and Gully have collaborated to create the door.
The Fine Arts League moved into its new building on Depot Street in September. It was also used for several decades as Asheville Packing Company, a locally owned and operated food processing facility that made, among other items, chili for the hot dogs sold at Asheville Tourist baseball games. The League now anchors a larger development that Mountain Housing Opportunities plans for the adjoining properties, the old Glen Rock Hotel and several properties along Ralph and Choctaw Streets.
