Jean began studying art at the age of thirteen. She graduated with a BFA from the Albright Art School of the University of Buffalo (SUNY) and has her Art certification for Grades K-12 from Hunter College (CUNY), New York City. She also studied book illustration at the School of Visual Arts in New York.
For the past thirty-five years, she and her husband, Peter Loewer, have been working though Graphos Studio to publish a number of books. The most recent was "The Moonflower" published by Peachtree Publishing in Atlanta. In 2005 she finished a large mural for the Pack Memorial Library, on display outside the Children’s room, which depicts the bookmobile and its fifty-year service to Buncombe County.
