Eli Corbin grew up on a farm in Florida where she was exposed to the beauty of nature and nurtured by the creativity of her family. In 1979 she moved to North Carolina and received a degree in Political Science. It wasn’t until several years later that she took her first watercolor class and her latent desire to explore painting surfaced. Hoping to infuse some of her creativity with her professional goals, she started her own interior design business, which she operated for several years. This affirmed her passion for creativity and her desire to make art to share with others. She left her business to pursue painting full-time.
I enjoy exploring the use of pattern and color to express emotion and meaning. Although my images are often representational, the palette and fragmentation allude to thoughts and sentiments which are not necessarily seen, but rather, are felt on a deeper level.
This painting is part of a series called “People Paintings.” The first painting was started just after 9/11 and it provided a creative means for me to process that horrible tragedy. The series has progressed to a lighter and more colorful palette, now focusing on relationships in general.
