Mountain Housing Opportunities, Inc. demonstrated that affordable housing should be more than just safe and decent through the Prospect Terrace Development.  MHO proved that housing should also be attractive and sustainable, or “green”.  A green home is a comfortable, healthy and affordable home that reduces energy usage and resource consumption.  Building materials and processes are also selected to improve occupant health both during construction and throughout the life of the home.  Prospect Terrace will represent the first certified housing development under the newly developed NC HealthyBuilt Homes Program.   This program is designed to promote “green building” in North Carolina through certification for residential builders who practice sustainable “green” building practices.  
 
Prospect Terrace, a development of 17 cottage homes and condominiums, will demonstrate a variety of building techniques, systems and materials that will reduce energy use and the impact of development on our natural resources.  Prospect Terrace will also provide families and individuals with home ownership opportunities that they could not otherwise afford.
